Other work at home companies I've worked for

I've done quite a few different work at home gigs and just wanted to say a few words about them.

West - This is an inbound phone job. They used to hire independent contractors and now only hire employees. This meant that my wage would go to the min. wage in VA which is going up soon but was low at the time of conversion. I decided it wasn't worth it to me. They hired me with no telecommunications experience though and it was a great foot in the door. I took calls for Sears Home repair(awful!), ShopNBC(fun calls), and a few other lines I didn't stick with.

Liveops - This is also an inbound phone job. The second company I applied for. They hired me with no experience in the field as well. Liveops has a great network of technology and paid 25 cents a minute for direct response calls. Direct response is the infomercials that you see on tv. I took calls for all kinds of workout gear, kitchen appliances and more. There was a huge script to read and you had to attempt to sell the cust all kinds of upsells, magazines, and more. This got very frustrating and after 60 days(I think) of inactivity my account was disabled. I recently reapplied to give it another go. There is a $30 background fee for this company, but they are legit. This is the only instance I would recommend paying to work.

VIPDesk - This is mainly an inbound phone job. I was actually a chat customer service rep for this company which was my dream job. Or so I thought till I started. I worked for a high end clothing website. We sold all the designer brands. It seemed that all the customers I spoke with in chat were purposly trying to frustrate me. After VIP decided to switch us to doing 3 chats at one time I lost my cool and could no longer do this job without getting totally stressed. There were too many managers and none of them seemed to care about my concerns so I left. The pay with this company was excellent. It was also hard for me to keep up with the 25 hour a week minimum. My husband works shiftwork and I refuse to use a babysitter.

Others - I've tried Associated Content(probably made about $50), survey sites(MySurvey is the only one worth my time), and have spent countless hours checking into other things.

I'm onboard with Fingerlakes and have bunches applications in with other places so we'll see what happens. I should get my logins soon for Liveops to give them another try.

It's always a continual quest for me to keep searching for the next best work at home job. I'll never rest until I find the perfect one for me. I'm thinking of trying transcription. I can type at like 80 WPM so who knows. I applied for Tigerfish and they supposedly hire people with no experience so I'll keep you posted.

All info here is my opinion only! Please don't count out a company based on what I say.

Started with Fingerlakes

Well I've been working for Fingerlakes since Monday now and I have to say its the easiest job I've ever had but it's kind of a pain too. It is taking calls for a grant guide.

It seems their target demographic is people over the age of 70. This means that I am getting a lot of folks on the phone who can't hear so well and they can't hear me either so it's a big communication barrier. Monday I was getting back to back calls and I got a headache by the end of my shift. Tuesday and today are a lot slower so there is a lot more downtime in between calls.

And to address an issue: Do I feel bad for selling a grant guide to people who may be on disability or just getting social security? No, not at all. If they weren't buying this they would be buying something else that they don't need. At least this is something that could potentially help them it they take the time to send in for the grants.

Overall though it is going really well and I am enjoying it so far. I've still got applications out to a lot of other places and just sent in my contract to work for Liveops. There will be more about them in a future post.

The Truth About Rebate Processor Jobs

I get emails sent to my Yahoo email daily about being a rebate processor and how much money there is in it. Well I finally found somebody that has signed up for this and can explain in detail why they are scams. Gotta love the guinea pigs willing to try stuff so we don't have to!

Success w/ Ticketpuller.com!

Well about 2 weeks ago I ran across a post at WAHM that talked about TicketPuller. I was instantly curious so I went to the website and signed up to check it out. I was very skeptical at first but it sounded fun.

Basically what you are doing is pulling tickets through Ticketmaster and a few other websites for this company. You let them know which tickets you have pulled up and they will tell you to buy them or ditch them. They give you a login to ticketmaster that has all their payment info already attached. You don't have to pay any money to do this. If you are chosen to buy tickets you will be paid 5% to start of what the tickets sold for. There is a risk that your tickets could be cancelled as well so this is not a guaranteed payday at all but a way to make a bit of extra cash.

So far I have made $40.63 and have had that money deposited in my account. I have more coming to me hopefully once the length of time that they can be cancelled passes. It's not much money but quick and fun so I recommend everybody check it out. They have a waiting list but are bringing on new people so definitely sign up ASAP. Scam Research at Ripoff Report

Since there are so many scams out there today I thought I would share a great place to research them. Ripoff Report is a place where consumers can go to report any scams or ripoffs that they have encountered.

It's a completely free service and invaluable for those searching for legit opportunities. You can also list a scam as well.

I definitely recommend that everyone check out any potential job or opportunity on this website. If you do find something don't automatically count that company out. It just means you will want to do further research and proceed cautiously.

Once again though, NEVER pay anyone to work for them unless it's been proven to be legit by other work at home moms. Also never give out too much information to companies that you are unsure of. A lot of companies will ask for your social security number or bank information for direct deposit so defintely check them out using all sources available before you give out any of this information.

Got A Work at Home Job!!

Well finally after applying to tons of places the past few weeks I had an interview today and got a work at home job. Hallelujah!

I applied with Fingerlakes Web Answering. They were looking for inbound call agents to work as independent contractors and take sales and customer service calls. That is what I have done in the past and what I know so I figured I would apply. Lo and behold, 2 days after faxing in the paperwork they sent me an email requesting an interview this afternoon which I passed with flying colors.

I'm not at liberty to discuss any of the details of this job since I've been accepted for the position but they have a folder over at Work Place Like Home dedicated to this company.

So far they've been great to deal with so if you've checked out their website and researched them over at Work Place Like Home then I recommend applying.

One thing I have realized as I became a parent is that the only time I truely have to myself is before my son gets up in the morning, during naps, or after he goes to bed. Because of that I have started doing the bulk of my gift shopping online.

Making this Blog Work!

After having my blog up for just a few days I realize how vital it is that this information is found by those lookng for work at home jobs. I have decided to try to get my blog out there and to upgrade to a domain name and better hosting so that the masses can visit.

In order to do that I think I'm going to have to do a tiny bit of advertising on the site, just enough to cover the hosting fees. I wanted to be upfront and honest about this from the beginning to my readers.

I have signed up with Blogsvertise and hopefully will get accepted. Basically with them I will get to pick and choose companies that I can write about in my blog and I will get paid to do so. I think that would be a win-win situation for all.

Guys, I really just want to get this info seen by the right people. I'm gonna do what it takes to make that happen. I'm here for you!

Connect w/ other Work at Home Moms

The best way to learn about working at home is by talking to other moms and people who are doing the same. I have found two great message board sites that you can join for free. Both sites were invaluable in my search for info about working at home. I still visit them daily.

The first is Work Place Like Home. This forum is for anybody working at home.

The second is WAHM, which stands for work at home mom. This site has message boards and a ton of other sections that include job postings, articles, and more. While it is geared for the work at home mom this site is really good for anybody looking to work at home.

Please everybody sign up at these two message boards and just spend a couple of days reading and looking around. I guarantee you will find answers to any question already there if you take the time to look. Definitely use the search functions as well.

Write for Money - AC Style

If you are into writing boy do I have the site for you. Associated Content is a site where you can get your writing published and they will pay you! I personally have made between $3.86 and $8 per article but I don't really enjoy writing a whole bunch so all of mine were really short.

I found out the main things they are looking for are reviews or how to type articles. I definitely recommend that everybody give this a shot. They will send you the money through Paypal and you will also get money for page views in the future. I've made about $5 or more just on page view payout since April of 2007. Not very good but hey, better than nothing I guess.

I haven't written for this company since June of 2007 and I hear they aren't paying like they used to. I still recommend that you give this a shot because you never know what may come of it. You may decide you love to write and goodness knows there are a ton of work at home writing freelance positions.

Here's two other completely unresearched writing leads for moms, Brain Child Mag and Mommy Think. I don't know anything about them but they would definitely be worth a further look.

Don't pay to work!

Hello all. I think this is one of the most important things to remember when looking for a work at home job. DO NOT PAY TO WORK!!! There are a ton of scams out there that are going to want you to give them money and that will be the last you hear from them.

Now there are a few exceptions to this rule such as Liveops where you will have to pay for a background fee or equipment up front but this is very unusual and will not happen most of the time. If you run across a job that looks legit and has a fee go to the Work Place Like Home forum and ask around about it.

Speaking of the forum, it is great and is the place to go when looking for great work at home advice. Read through all the posts and search for any company you are interested in. There is a wealth of knowledge there if you take the time to look.

Don't forget to check out Rat Race Rebellion's leads. They post them around 8AM or 9AM eastern time every day.

The All Inclusive Work at Home Job List

Whether you are just deciding to try to find work from home or you've been at this for a while, the number one site you need to visit is Rat Race Rebellion.

This site is just so amazingly helpful because not only does it list work at home jobs by category but it also posts new listings every single day. You will be able to find a ton of jobs to apply for after visiting this site.

That doesn't mean that they've done all the work though. You still need to research each company thoroughly before applying or accepting an offer for a position. There are a ton of companies out there wanting to scam you in any way they can so you have to do your homework.

Day 1 - Here goes the blogging!

Well this is my first time ever writing a blog. I'm a bit nervous because to me blogging is being real and upfront. I'm ready to bare all about working at home while raising a toddler.

Most would think that being able to work in your PJ's from the comfort of home would be the most ideal situation but it's hard work! Us work at homer's put in tons of hours looking for jobs and we bust our butts trying to keep our jobs too. It's a cutthroat world and we are just looking for the freedom this lifestyle may offer.

Through this job I'm hoping to uncover the realities of what it means to work from home and the constant struggles of juggling everything at once. If anybody would like to share their experiences please let me know! Another goal is going to be to offer hope and encouragement to other people trying to work at home. If I find any great job leads I will be posting those frequently.
